February 1-2, 2014, Nasca, Peru

Just another day of driving through the desert from Paracas to Nasca. Stopped at a road side fruit stand for mango's, figs and another fruit which we were unable to identify. The elderly couple who owned the fruit stand were very interested in our travels and she had lots of questions, some of which we understood and others not so much. After packing our fruit onto the bike we decided to have mango cremolada, these are made by blending mango into a puree and then freezing them until they're not quite solid. The lady went into great detail about how she made them but we could only pickup parts of the conversation. On the way we stopped to view the Nasca lines which are directly beside the highway. We paid about 10 soles to climb a metal structure that takes you to an observation deck that is about 20 meters above the ground. From this vantage point you can see three of the formations but the best view is from an airplane (which is out of our budget).
We checked into a hotel for two nights in Nasca, it has AC and most importantly a decent TV for the viewing of the Super Bowl. I was awakened  about 3:30 am by rattling pictures and mirrors and then my bed started vibrating for 10 or 15 seconds. Later in the morning I confirmed that there was a 5.1 earthquake on the Pacific coast not far from here.
We started drinking coco tea today as it is recommended to prevent altitude sickness. It tastes very much like a green tea and is legal in Peru, Columbia, Ecuador, Argentina and Bolivia.
